February the Month of Love

It is finally February! One of our favourite months of the year, with some fun events in our diary to look forward to such as Pancake Day, Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day. So this year,  The Flower Shop Southampton we wanted to make not just February 14th the chance to celebrate love, but the whole month of February dedicated to love!

Here are some fun ways to celebrate love throughout the month of February - even in lockdown we can still take some time to enjoy what is around us. It can be any sort of love; your One True Love, your passion for nature, admiration for your best pal or love for all things pancake!

Great adventures indoors

The weather is still a bit unpredictable in February, so opt for a fun indoor activity for all the family that are missing outdoor adventures.

Grab some bedsheets and pegs, find some comfy cushions and rugs for the floor and create your own indoor campsite fortress that kids of all ages will love.  You can tell stories, make your own S’mores (melted marshmallows between chocolate digestive biscuits!), do a mini treasure hunt, watch some old school movies with popcorn and play games from your warm den at home.

Best mate appreciation

A new trend, and one that we adore! Galentine’s Day falls on Saturday February 13th and is to celebrate friendships around the world. Why not send your BFF a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to say you are a superstar! The perfect flowers to send on February 13th are yellow, which symbolise friendship and happiness. Check out our stunning Lemon Sizzle Hand-tied which includes a fab mix of seasonal sunshine yellow flowers - sure to bring a big smile to your best mates face when we deliver the surprise Galentine's bouquet!

Zoom wine tasting

If you are wine connoisseurs in the making and adore a glass or2 of fine wine, arrange a fun date night with a zoom wine tasting session. Research online for local wineries who may be hosting virtual wine tasting experiences throughout lockdown – a fun way to sample a range of luxury wines on your own sofa (no designated driver required!).

Fall in love with local Nature

Embrace the beauty of winter nature from your own home; Make a thermos of hot tea, slip on your warmest jackets, fill your hot water bottle up and grab your binoculars for a day in your own garden!

Depending where you are in the country, at this time of year you can may spot tiny Nuthatch birds in the bare trees, white snow drops and dainty bluebells start hopefully popping up through the soil, listen out for Great Spotted Woodpeckers drumming, breeding season for frogs begins so you may spy frogspawn in your pond and we have even spotted a few sunshine daffodils making an early appearance this year!

The freezing cold weather can make it harder for wildlife to source fresh water and food, so if you can regularly top up a water bowl in the garden or hang a little bird feeder with nuts they will love this.

Romantic blooms

What better way to express your emotions and spread some joy than with fresh flowers?  The Flower Shop Southampton are helping our local customers share the love with beautiful blooms, with our Valentine’s Day Flowers range launched online! Choose to send romantic red roses to your significant other on February 14th - check out our bestselling Valentine's flowers 12 red roses hand-tied bouquet, which includes a free stylish glass vase to display the roses in.

Our florists are working safely behind closed doors throughout lockdown, and offering contactless flower delivery to the local Southampton and Hampshire areas.

Ready, Steady …. Cook!

Plan a surprise home cooked dinner of your other half’s favourite food. Everyone loves a thoughtful gesture, and your favourite comfort food during lockdown is always going to be a winner! From fun chicken fajitas, delicious spaghetti bolognaise to roast with all the trimmings, you can get your apron on and cook up a feast fit to compete in Master Chef.

Pancake Day

Pancake Day is a long standing tradition -  in the olden days it was a way to use up cupboard essentials and removing tempting treats from the store cupboard such as eggs, butter and flour before the 40 days of Lent began. They would fry up these ingredients in to pancakes or fritters to eat with meats on Shrove Tuesday.

Nowadays, Pancake Day (falling on Tuesday 16th February 2021) is a much loved day with a fabulous excuse to enjoy some yummy pancakes, whilst honouring the traditions of our ancestors. Will you choose to make simple lemon and sugar flavour pancakes, fluffy blueberry and maple syrup American pancakes or go all out for a chocoholics dreams pancake? Why not have some fun with it and get the whole family involved with pancake tossing competition - lots of fun and giggles to see who can keep their pancake in tact!

Write a letter

Share some love with those you can’t see in person due to restrictions. Nowadays we all rely on technology for emails, messaging and zoom calls but how about going old school for the day? You could send a personal letter to your grandparents, old friend or even just a love letter to your Significant other! A lovely hand written card with a really personal touch will brighten their day and make them feel more connected to you.
